Energy-Saving Window Treatments for your Home

Another home improvement project that you can pursue is to turn your house into an energy-saving structure. And you might be surprised on how simple and easy that is.

One thing that is very important in most household is heating. For that, you would need a heater and an air-conditioner. But do you know that you can use your window as an alternative for both appliances? With the right window treatment, you can improve ventilation in your residence.

But first, you need to figure out which part of your house gets to greet the rising sun first. Then, you can start working on your renovation project. Put up a window film in either transparent or frosted finish. This would help control the amount of light that comes into your dwelling. Likewise, this prevents fading of furniture and carpet colour under intense sunlight exposure.

If you want to keep your house cool, hang white curtains on your windows where the sunlight comes in. This would reflect heat rather than absorb it. But if you would like to warm up the interior, then hang black or dark curtains. The effect would be opposite to that of white.

Another alternative is through the use of window blinds. They also keep the inside of your residence cool. But if you prefer higher percentage of protection from heat, then use plantation shutters instead. They are thicker and harder than either blinds or draperies. In addition, the slats can close tightly to shut out light completely.

With these types of window treatments, you can shut off your heater or air-conditioner once in a while. You get to save energy and the environment as well!
